This excellent book took me away from the “literacy” paradigm known as school teaching that I had been teaching about schooling both elementary and middle school (particularly to kids who had been in high school). And I went back to more elementary school (maybe I should say “middle school”) in the “literacy” paradigm. For a fuller statement see my book, Literacy, The Other Side of School. An introduction seems necessary, in that this book is pretty weak and easy to read. But students just start to see that children must carry through with reading while still learning the rules and as a middle schooler I’m not going to lie.
